W.K.M.S.
1. Hook & Headline Creation : The headline and opening paragraph are what readers—and editors—see first, so they must grab attention quickly. High-end websites prioritize content that’s relevant, timely, and intriguing. A compelling headline and “hook” ensure the press release stands out and engages readers right from the start. This phase sets the tone and offers a reason for readers to continue.
Key Activities:
- Crafting the headline: Make it concise, compelling, and reflective of the main news.
- Incorporate action words, numbers, or interesting qualifiers if appropriate.
- Subheadline: Use a brief subheadline to add depth to the main headline, providing extra context.
- Opening paragraph: Begin with a strong hook that explains what’s new, why it’s significant, and why readers should care. It should introduce the core message in a way that’s clear, compelling, and draws the reader into the rest of the release.
Goal:Capture immediate interest, compelling readers and editors to explore the full article.
2. Core Message & Key Information : This phase delivers the core news and details in a concise, informative manner, answering essential questions (who, what, when, where, why, how) to give readers a complete understanding. Ensuring clarity and precision here is crucial for credibility, as well as making sure the message aligns with the brand’s tone and image.
Key Activities:
- News Announcement: Clearly state the primary news (e.g., product launch, business milestone, new partnership) and its significance.
- Key Details: Include critical facts and figures to support the announcement and provide necessary context for readers.
- Concise Communication: Avoid jargon and focus on delivering a strong, straightforward message that quickly answers the audience’s questions.
Goal: Convey the core message effectively, ensuring that readers understand the announcement’s significance and relevance to them.
3. Supporting Quotes & Context : Including quotes and additional context not only humanizes the release but also adds credibility and depth. Quotes from relevant company figures, industry experts, or even customers help provide unique perspectives, making the press release more engaging and authoritative. This phase builds a connection between the news and the audience by giving it a personal touch.
Key Activities:
- Quotes from Leaders: Add insightful or impactful quotes from company executives or spokespersons that reinforce the importance of the news.
- Industry or Historical Context: Situate the announcement within the larger industry landscape or relevant trends.
- Supporting Details: Add any background information or context to clarify why this news is meaningful to the audience.
Goal: Enhance credibility, relatability, and the perceived value of the news through authoritative and personal elements.
4. Call to Action & Closing Details : A press release with a clear call to action (CTA) helps guide the audience on what to do next, whether it’s visiting the website, signing up for updates, or contacting the company. High-end websites favor press releases that create an actionable path for interested readers, making the content both relevant and interactive.
Key Activities:
- Call to Action: Include a clear CTA that directs readers on how to engage further (e.g., visit a website, register for a webinar, read a full report).
- Contact Information: Provide contact details for press inquiries, often at the bottom of the release.
- Additional Resources: Mention links to related content, such as case studies, product pages, or company background information, if applicable.
Goal: Encourage further engagement by offering clear next steps and additional resources for those interested in more information.
